Environmental groups file suit over 7 years of oil spilling into Gulf of Mexico

New Orleans = Several environmental groups filed a

lawsuit claiming oil has been flowing into the Gulf of Mexico for more than seven years from an oil leak caused by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The lawsuit was filed by the Louisiana Environmental

Action Network, Atchafalaya Basinkeeper, Galveston Baykeeper, Louisiana Bayoukeeper, and the New York-based Waterkeeper Alliance.

The groups claim hundreds of gallons of oil are leaking every day from the site where an offshore platform and 28 oil wells owned by Taylor Energy Co. were damaged by a seafloor mudslide triggered by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. [Continue reading…]
